Poems

Clemency

When knavish thought
dare for to tread
and with glib humor the dawn embrace.
There in time, I will find, within my heart
the secret of my essence.

Where dark shadows converge
to perform dismal deeds
and with hunger eye my face.
There in place, I will find, within my soul,
the secret of my spirit.

Though gentle days and sweet grass nights
may fill my heart with sighing.
It is the treacherous moments
black as night
that best reveal the strength
that lives beneath this skin.

There will be succulent moments
that linger on my tongue.
Wistful dreams I long to keep,
but it is the stab of darker thoughts
that best raise me up a human.
