Open your mouth

She didn’t tell him that she loved him.
She bore each sigh
Each rough goodbye.
Each whispered scorn.

Timed her tears to the rain
made dashes of paint
across her windowless room
Her heart had no time to beat.

She didn’t open like a flower
stayed primly still
her hurt cloaked round her shadow
pristine expression of black

She was still and alone
but it was her lack of voice
that broke her heart.

Open your mouth
