Poet:Bekki Bedow

My name is Bekki Bedow. I started this blog in 2oo8 as a way to express the things inside me.

This is what I look like:

Contact email: Bekki.bedow@gmail.com

If subject line is left blank I won’t open it.

Keep it appropriate. I know people, vindictive people.

A few bits about me:

  • I am a bit clumsy. I never met a doorway, corner, or object of furniture I have not bumped into, tripped over or otherwise impaled myself on.
  • I am dyslexic.
  • I have a strange love of collecting postcards and bookmarks.
  • I eat books. Ok, not really..but I read them pretty dern fast.
  • I love writing but have the worst handwriting ever forged by a left-handed woman.
  • I love swedish fish and root beer. A LOT.
  • I have an obsessive love of trees that borders on treehugging.
  • I am a Taoist, which is most associated with the Yin-Yang symbol but is really much, much, more.
  • I am a Transcendentalist. Which means I have two philosophies I believe in. They strangely compliment one another.
  • I am not a skinny chick and I have curves.
  • I have hair that resembles a nest for rabid caterpillars.
  • I have freckles..lots of freckles. GAH!
  • I wear glasses.
  • I have the type of humor that makes Norton Graham the man I would most likely be watching if I were in the UK right now.
  • I have never seen an episode of Johnathan Creek, Doctor Who, or QI, I didn’t love.
  • I think Chuck, Psych,Raising Hope, and Monk are the funniest shows ever birthed by sitcoms.
  • I love Science Fiction.
  • I love Paranormal Creatures, Science fiction characters, and Mythical beasts.
  • I love those slutty Paranormal Romance novels no one admits they love.
  • and last but never least: there is no such thing as too much pumpkin pie.

Capricorn Sun Gemini Rising

An “icing on the cake” sincere and glib personality is a fine fit for these Wise Old Goats; they become more disarming and approachable, with lots to say. These Capricorns are those wonderfully communicative people who are always willing to share the reasons behind their decisions, leaving no room for confusion or resentment. There’s an open mind, open dialogue, and open-door policy at work here. Being Capricorns, they still love to be the boss and they’re always in charge, but Gemini brings more flexibility and a willingness to hear others’ ideas rather than rule with an iron fist. Jitterbug Gemini’s chattiness makes these people a lot more open than other Capricorns—everyone stays on the same page because there’s more sharing, and that improves the team effort. In this way, these Capricorns endear themselves to their underlings and overcome a good deal of that make-everything-difficult negativity that often accompanies their sun sign. As a matter of fact, they’re often adept at using words to create a favorable impression. They know the power of benign misinformation, and they’re skilled at using it in the most fortuitous circumstances without letting on that they’re following a calculated Capricorn plan. And no one’s the wiser—and there’s no resentment!—because everyone’s purpose is served. How’s that for win-win silver-tongued Gemini slickness?

These people are great schoolteachers; their Gemini instruction and Capricorn discipline work wonderfully in the classroom. They communicate openly with their students, helping them make the connection between their classroom education and the ways of the world. As managers, they do the same, making it clear to their underlings how today’s behavior will affect tomorrow’s outcome. These people prefer to be in charge of their own domain. They don’t respond well to being positioned under someone’s thumb. They want authority for themselves as well as the opportunity to put their own thoroughly thought-out ideas into practice, knowing that they’re usually right on. They’re also apt to be great salespeople, peddling their wares with a productive glibness. And, finally, many self-employed truck-drivers who love the back-and-forth, here-and-there nature of their work are Capricorns with Gemini rising.

  4. Bekki I was reading the above, not for the first time, but my eyes played a trick, as I was reading “I am an optimist” my right eye saw the next line as “but I am also a dentist” there must be a poem there somewhere-Iwas just watching a vid are you from Noy Yoyk?

  5. Nope, I am from Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida and now Wisconsin. (Just call me a rolling stone..lol) I grew up in Ohio and relocated to Pa, where my dad lived. Spent my married years in Fl and currently am in Wisconsin beginning again since I separated from my husband almost 1 year ago. (OMG has it really been that long?)Do I have a bit of an accent going on? That would be my Pa/ohio mixed with my country thang, I am thinking. I use to get teased a lot because I work very hard to get my diction correct (had a speech impediment when I was littler) and when I am really upset, angry or tired my drawl pops it’s evil head out for a look..lOl. I also have an annoying habit of catching on to accents fairly quickly and find myself unconsciously mimicking others, which can get me into trouble when they think I am mocking them. EEP. When I worked at Disney I had a man come to my podium and accurately name off all the place I had been all my life. (freaked me out) He was a linguist. You really are where you live..heh

Ps. I am not a dentist..I have a healthy fear of dentist tools. (snicker)

  6. I just read the comments above the comment I commented on (long way to go a short way?)I am stunned by the compliment. Thank you so very much for saying that! I try to focus on getting to the core words in a truth without extra flowers, though I do often do the flowery poems a bit too.

  7. HI B … stumbled on your blog today (randomly/purposefully searching for poetry blogs) and there is simply too much here to ENJOY in one viewing, so I bookmarked your blog and I will visit again! I found your “voice” refreshing, perhaps even inspiring. Thanks for sharing it with us.
